According to UNICEF, many NCDs that affect individuals in adulthood have their onset during adolescence and youth. By focusing on this age group, Afyalytics aims to address and mitigate NCD risk factors early, promoting healthier lifestyles and long-term well-being.
Afyalytics, a pioneering digital health platform, was founded by Oduor Kevin, whose personal experiences with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) shaped his mission to transform NCD prevention. After losing his mother to pre-eclampsia in 2008 and his father to carcinoma cancer in 2016, Kevin faced the devastating impact of these diseases firsthand. These experiences fueled his determination to find innovative solutions to prevent NCDs, particularly for young people who often overlook the importance of early health interventions.
While studying public health at Kenyatta University, Kevin began to explore ways to address the rising burden of NCDs in Kenya. His vision for Afyalytics took shape during this time, but it was when he joined the Founders Factory Africa Academy (now called 54collective) that the idea truly evolved. At the Academy, Kevin received the mentorship, resources, and support needed to further develop his concept into a robust digital platform. Afyalytics was designed to empower individuals by providing personalized risk assessments and actionable recommendations to help them reduce their chances of developing NCDs.
Today, Afyalytics focuses on young people aged 18-34, offering a digital tool that makes NCD prevention accessible and actionable. Through personalized recommendations based on a comprehensive risk assessment, the platform enables users to take control of their health and make informed lifestyle changes. Kevin's goal is clear: to significantly reduce the prevalence of NCDs in Kenya to less than 10%, ensuring that future generations are better equipped to prevent the diseases that have caused so much pain and loss in his life.
Oduor is a dedicated public health specialist with nearly a decade of experience in the field of non-communicable diseases. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Health from Kenyatta University and is currently pursuing a Master's in Public Health at the University of Manchester through a Commonwealth Scholarship. Oduor is passionate about advancing health outcomes through evidence-based strategies and innovative solutions.
